I am fortunate in that I don't feel that I have suffered discrimination where I ring. I think my capabilities have been recognised
and ringing opportunities have certainly come my way. I don't think I have an aptitude for conducting, but that hasn't meant that I have not had access to or not been encouraged to try. I am comfortable calling call changes (in fact I really like calling call changes), simple touches and quarter peals and I have called 2 peals. I wouldn't call myself a conductor in the true sense because I can't see coursing orders or part ends when ringing and I'm pretty certain I'd probably go wrong myself or miscall the composition if I was trying to see them.

One issue that I have encountered has nothing to do with discrimination – I have found it it difficult to make my voice heard clearly at certain towers due to the pitch of my (female) voice. Some people were just not hearing me even though I was really shouting. The solution was to consciously deepen and project my voice. However, it did require considerable effort on top of concentrating on what I was doing.
